Item Description

A striking and unusual large azurite and malachite combination from small finds at this less well-known Morroco mine in 2010-11. The sculptural mounded plate consists of two generations of azurite and one generation of malachite! The bottom reveals the first generation of bright azure-blue rosettes, that have overgrowths on top. Malachite covers almost half of the rosettes on top, with the other half covered by probable black manganese oxides. A striking contrast and sharp division line! The secondary overgrowth of clusters of thin coated, azurite blade adds color (due to iridescence and luster) and much sculptural quality to this very showy, uncommon and unusual looking large specimen from the Anna & Danilo Rolando and Dr. Barratt Phillips Collections.
