Item Description

A RARE and highy desirable old artifact of mining from historic Copper Country! This is a 1.25 inch exploratory drill core from the Atlantic Mine. The sculptural hefty large rich core is native copper with quartz and is dramatically accented with the striking cleft, nipple at the top and copper "tail". Mineral specimens are RARE from this less well-known mine, formed in 1872 and successfully mined until 1906, when the mine was destroyed by cave-ins and air-blasts. Some exploration continued until 1911, when the property was taken over by another company. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6484 and acquired from Ray Grant in a New Jersey parking lot in October, 1971! Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A FASCINATING, RARE and historical Copper Country artifact! Value of this unique rarity???
