Sand-included Calcite crystals (Joe Lobell Coll.)

Item Description

Fine-grained sandstone has richly included/replaced a spectacular, sculptural, large specimen of calcite scalenohedrons from a difunct South Dakota locale, Rattlesnake Butte (Devils Hill) near Interior. The crystals, up to 8.0 cm (some doubly terminated), grew in the Miocene sand matrix. An amazing, 360-degree specimen, with only a few contacts or broken crystals. Older material, collected in the 1960s and 70s and seldom seen today. It has multiple display posssibilities. Ex Joe Lobell Collection.
