Item Description

Clusters of matte finish, euhedral chalcopyrite crystals, to 3.2 cm, are richly and aesthetically scattered on the matrix plate covered with quartz points on this very showy and excellent combination specimen from this well-known ancient poly-metallic mining district. The last mines closed in the 1960s. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4292 and acquired from Sol Shale in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). The district is well-known for chalcopyrite specimens and this is a fine example.
