Item Description

An exceptional California fluorite. Two intergrown lustrous and translucent cuboctahedrons have luscious apple-green color and fabulous stepped-growth faces. Every turn presents a different perspective and it GLOWS, when back lit! The "porch" of tiny quartz points is a fine contrast and accessory. These green fluorites were collected by the Gochenour brothers in the early 1990s, and are seldom available even within California. The vein was very small, and hard to work. It was tucked into a now-inaccessible canyon in a suburban development within the greater Los Angeles area, and can be considered a mineral from a very urban locale. Purple fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection with no label. It was lost during the move, but comes with a former owner label (Gochenours?). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). Valued at $800-1000 and worth it. A superb California fluorite and a MUST for the locality or species collector.
