Item Description

A RARE and sculptural old-time specimen of densely intergrown limonite stalactites from an unknown mine in this historic mining area. Nadabula is a suburb of Roznava, a prosperous mining town for gold, silver and iron in the Middle Ages (5th - 15th centuries). Iron ore mining resumed about 1800 and continued through the 20th century (Wikipedia). An OLD specimen, as the Kay Robertson Collection label # 8186 states Nadabula, Hungary. This area became part of Slovakia in 1920, after World War I. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Both ends were contacted against the vug walls. A noteworthy, showy and RARE old-timer.
