Item Description

Krennerite is a rare Gold-Silver telluride and the famous ancient mines at Nagyag are the Type Locality. Specimens from here are RARE and combination specimens of this aesthetic quality and richness are VERY RARE, indeed. And this one has GOLD WITH IT - I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE WITH ASSOCIATED GOLD!! Classic, striated, prismatic lathes, to about 3 mm, have splendent metallic luster and are richly peppered on the undulating sulfide and quartz matrix covered with sparkly quartz points. Tiny visible gold crystals are also richly scattered about. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4324 (acquired in the 1960s or early 1970s). Kay forwarded this specimen to a knowledgeable person who reported on his note in return (which is kept here): "an extremely fine specimen with terminated crystals associated with minor argentite, probably hessite and gold." Undoubtedly old-time material dating from the 1800s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Value today of this super fine and rich combination old-time rarity?? I love her label details, reassuring whoever is to see it, that the piece is of value! Today, valued more like $500-up
