Item Description

Adorable and sculptural two-sided combination material from this ancient iron mine, that closed in 1965. Both sides of the dramatic, snail-shaped quartz crystal plate are aesthetically covered with sharp chalcopyrite sphenoids and fields of flattened, brown siderite rhombs. The well-placed, larger chalcopyrites on the front, up to 7 mm, have classic bronzy/brassy luster with areas of pretty golden iridescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1331 and acquired in the late 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Classic and excellent combination material from the Georg Mine.
