Item Description

A classic example of this HARD TO FIND material featuring a bright, metallic, semi-foliated, hexagonal, silvery color crystals of splendent Molybdenite on host rock matrix. The largest Molybdenite measures 1.6 cm across, and to find good isolated crystals like this on matrix is RARE This mine stopped operating back in 1902, so this piece is WELL over 100 years gold! Great shape overall and very showy. A WONDERFUL miniature of this beloved material. The best specimens from this locality are among the most attractive Molybdenites from the United States. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9274). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
