Item Description

A sculptural stacked 360-degree intergrown cluster of fluorite cubes from this classic old Weardale area lead and fluorite mine. The lustrous, glassy, translucent to transparent, bi-colored cubes, to 2.9 cm, are mostly a rich grape-purple with white patches. Some of the cubes of have faint edge phantoms, as a bonus. STRIKINGLY, this piece is a fluorite crystal stalactite, as the broken base reveals the 7 mm tube, where the prepicitating fluorite-rich fluids flowed! Complete all-around, with only a few gently bruised corners. RICH purple fluorescence, as you would expect. The piece is illustrated in the MINDAT Photo Gallery for the locale with a September, 2018 photo by Dr. Stephen Moreton. Classic, excellent and most unusual stalactitic fluorite from the historic Greenlaws Mine.
