Item Description

Striking and unusual form in this rare pseudomorph. Calcite has replaced ikaite, an uncommon calcite varietal with extra water. These are called "Glendonite" and form in mudstone concretions. The lustrous, orange-brown scalenohedrons, to 5.5 cm (doubly terminated), form a striking stellate spray. Pristine and certainly one of the more sculptural examples we have seen. These starting coming out in the early 1990s and you don't see many around today. Ex Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection.
