Item Description

The fantastic large etched section on this sculptural large old-time fishtail-twinned calcite crystal adds dramatic visual appeal to this very fine classic from Joplin. The highly lustrous, glassy amber crystal is transparent to translucent and the striking, unusual etched, cuneform-like prism faces adds even more pizzazz to this outstanding and unusual piece. Complete all-around and nearly pristine. A bruise on the back of one of the terminations is out-of-sight in the primary display side view. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4231 and acquired at the Culver City Show in 1965. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). RARE style old-time fishtail-twinned calcite from Joplin.
