Item Description

Galena on Schalenblende specimens are well-known from this less well-known lead-zinc mine, that was discovered in 1984 and is now closed. Sculptural clusters of sharp, lustrous metallic galena cubes with a few cuboctahedrons are aesthetically clustered on the rolling, mammillary shalenblende matrix. The dramatic stacked galena cluster is 2.5 cm across. Schalenblende is a compact, fine grained variety of Sphalerite of a mid-brown to yellow or cream colour, occurring in concentric layers with reniform surfaces which also may contain intergrown wurtzite, marcasite, pyrite and galena (MINDAT). A fine and artistic combination example of the species from the Rob Sielecki Collection, a prominent Australian dealer.
