Item Description

Striking modified edges and contrasting embedded calcite matrix with attached cute smaller crystals highlight this sharp doubly terminated thumbnail carrollite crystal from a New Find at this well-known Katanga mine. The splendent silver-metallic crystal has remarkable form and the superb lustre that is characteristic of this rare Cu-Co-Ni sulfosalt. This very fine 360-degree crystal is in fine shape. Modest bruising is noted to three of the six corners, some at or near the attached matrix. However, the correct display on two sides eliminates nearly all of the bruising. The two primary frontal display faces have only a trivial bit of edge wear. This new find resets the modern standard! The size, high quality and form still rate this as an exceptional thumbnail specimen. Here is your chance to obtain a very fine carrollite octahedron at a very reasonable price point. Valued at $400-500.
