Item Description

Bizarre looking calcite from this Ontario area noted for outstanding quartz specimens and unusual calcites. This impressive large 360-degree blocky rhomb is composed of two generations of calcite. Two amazing corners reveal the glassy, gem, hematite-tinted interior of the crystals. Preferential secondary overgrowths of cream-colored calcite are dramatically augmented by two faces festooned with tiny pyritohedrons and by the cute tabular crystal at the base. Complete all-around and nearly a floater, the small attachment is at the base of the tabular crystal. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 706 and acquired from Claude Smith in the 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A stunning, very unusual large single calcite crystal from Lyndhurst.
