Item Description

Bornite pseudomorphs after chalcocite crystals are rare from this historic old Cornwall copper mine. Pretty lightly iridescent blue-gray bornite pseudos after tabular chalcocite crystals, to 1.7 cm, line a well-placed 3.3 cm vug atop the large sulfide matrix. Many more crystals of this rarity are scattered about on the sides along with a few quartz crystals. This is an outstanding large and rare pseudomorph from the Botallack Mine and certainly dates to the 1800s or even the 1700s. The Botallack Mine opened in 1721 and closed in 1914. VERY RARE on the market in this size and richness. This likely dates to teh 1800s but it could be earlier. It is a large specimen with very sharp, protected crystals. Valued $1500-2000
