Item Description

A RARE, very rich, hefty, old-time combination ore specimen from this ancient mercury ore mining district. Sparkly wine-red cinnabar microcrystals richly cover the blocky matrix along with lustrous, rounded gray aggregates of Calomel crystals, a rare Hg-chloride. Landsberg is the Type Locality for Calomel. This historic district was active from around 1440 to 1942! Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7500 and acquired in Lexington, New York in March, 1975. Previouly in the Falkenhorst Collection and there is an old 1904 A.E. Foote label on the bottom of the piece. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Rich and RARE quality combination material from here. A MUST for the species or locality collector!
