Item Description

Rich, showy and deceptive old-time combination material from the historic polymetallic mines at Baia Sprie, active from the 1300s until 2006! The sculptural front is covered with with brown bubbly botryoids of Siderite variety Spharosiderite. Splendent metallic sprays of stibnite blades, to 6.6 cm, are hidden on the back and side of the piece. Honey-brown crystals and crusts of Klebelsbergite (Type Locality), a RARE Stibnite alteration sulfide are located adjacent and near the Stibnite blades. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2601 and acquired from Brad van Scriver at Del Mar in 1962, the year Brad became a full-time mineral dealer. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Specimens of this old-time combination style and quality are RARE from Felsobanya.
