Item Description

Mineral specimens of ANY species are RARE from the Chiave Pass. Pearlescent kyanite blades, in both parallel-growth and jackstraw fashion, are embedded in quartz matrix on this showy and extremely rare old-timer. Formerly in the Hermann Kraft Collection, with a 1940 date on his label. The piece was found prior to 1914, the start of World War I, when the pass was part of the Austrian Empire. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 8360 and acquired from the Cisneros' in 1977. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Rare, possibly unique old-time Austrian/Italian kyanite.
