Item Description

RARE and RARE style large old-time calcite from the famous mines at Weardale. Glassy, translcuent, oxide-tinted dogtooth calcite crystals cover this impresssive large curved specimen. The back and base host a striking surprise with a 5.0 cm sparkly microcrytalline calcite lined vug surrounded by banded calcite. Most pink fluorescence in the banded calcite. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 701 and acquired from the Shale's in the 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). An outstanding old-time rare style large calcite form Weardale. Calcite is rare from here. A MUST for the species or locality collector!
