Item Description

Ussingite is a rare silicate and this well-known Greenland fjord is the Type Locality. A stout 4.3 cm pillar of pretty lavender translucent ussingite dominates the crest of this sculptural large combination. Most of the specimen is composed of lustrous, translucent, pea-green sodalite with scattered areas of contrasting columnar aegerine as an accessory. There is a patch of snow-white natrolite on tip of one side of the ussingite. Sodalite is RARE from Kangerluarsuk, as there are no examples in the MINDAT Photo Gallery. The sodalite has rich orange fluorescence under both LW and SW UV and the ussingite is green under SW UV light. A RARE, rich and excellent combination from the locale. Ex David Burgess Collection, for whom Burgessite is named.
