Item Description

A beautiful cherry-red, 2.5 cm on diagonal, lustrous and translucent rhodochrosite rhomb dramatically dominates the striking sculptural vug filled with smaller drusy quartz-covered rhodos on this rich and impressive small cabinet from the famous Uchucchacua Mine. The front of the large rhomb was cleaved to expose the rich red color of the rhodochrosite. The sawed base on massive hefty granular sulfide matrix really enhances the presentation quality of this aesthetic specimen from the W.S. Logan Collection # X89-4. The previous owner, Manuel Ortega, acquired the piece in 2000. Valued at $800-1000 for crystal richness, sculptural quality and size.
