Item Description

Brazilian rhodochrosite is rare from any locality, with most specimens coming from the Conselheiro Lafaiete area of Minas Gerais. This impressive, sculptural and colorful large combination is from the manganese Morro da Mina mine, well-known for superb Rhodonite specimens. Both walls of a sculptural, well-placed 5.8 cm vug are lined with pretty rose-pink rhodochrosite botryoids. The enclosing massive, laminated, lustrous, cherry-red matrix is rhodonite with a thin slab of contrasting shale on the floor of the vug. Ex W.S. Logan Collection # X18-3 and illustrated on Page 105 of his 2013 self-published book, Rhodochrosite - Crystals of Drama and Nuance (available by request). Valued at $600-800 for rarity, unique combination style and size.
