Item Description

Sazhinite-(La) is an extremely rare hydrated Na-La silicate found at only three localities worldwide (MINDAT). It is a member of the Dalyite Group of rare silicates. The Phonolite quarries at Aris are the Type Locality. Tuperssuatsiaite is another very rare hydrated complex silicate, a member of the Palygorskite Group. Spherical aggregates of creamy-white lathes of Sazhinite, to 3 mm, are aesthetically clustered and flanked by tufts and sprays of golden-yellow Tuperssuatsiaite needles on the blocky matrix. Phonolites are rare alkalic extrusive igneous rocks, rich in nepheline and potash feldspar. The intrusive equivalent is nepheline syenite. Sazhinite-(La) was approved in 2004 and this piece is from the 2009 find. Very choice, rich and rare combination material of these two rarities from the Shields Flynn Collection.
