Item Description

A rich and showy combination specimen from this well-known old New Mexico Zn-Pb-Cu-Ag skarn deposit, operated from around 1900 into the 1950s or 60s. The sculptural quartz crystal pincushion is richly invested with charcoal-gray sphalerite twins, scattered golden, lightly iridescent chalcopyrite sphenoids to 1.5 cm and a few hard-to-see smaller pyrite cubes. The matrix is mixed sulfides and quartz. Classic and excellent older Groundhog Mine combination material from the Chris Cowan Collection dating to 1955-56.
