Item Description

Dramatic and rare old stalactitic wavellite from this long extinct 19th century iron mine, which exploited residual deposits of Goethite and Limonite (MINDAT). This striking, sculptural large specimen is composed of innumerable densely intergrown knobby, tan to cream wavellite stalactites! The dark oxides in the central tubes, where the precipitating phosphate-rich fluids flowed are a nice contrast. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2630 and acquired from the Cisneros's at the 1979 MSSC Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Old-time specimens of this style and quality are known, but are RARELY on the market. A MUST for the locality or species collector.
