Item Description

A highly unusual old-time tabular tourmaline from Minas Gerais. Flattened tourmalines, such as this bi-colored combination beauty are rare. The two-toned indicolite-blue termination is translucent on top with a pretty gemmy section underneath. The pastel-pink mid-section is above the teal-blue base. The glassy, translucent to gemmy, striated crystal has a striking vug on the back filled with lepidolite crystals with the teal-blue tourmaline below being quite gemmy. A RARE style tourmaline combination from the Kay Robertson Collection # 6620. Old material, as she purchased this piece from Willard Perkin in 1972 at the Big Valley Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). 34 grams masss.
