Item Description

An OLD-TIME, sharp, barite crystal miniature from an unknown English locale. The lustrous tabular brown crystal has classic form with sharp chisel edges, translucence with straw-yellow color and a well-defined phantom in the center. The crystal is nicely attached to a horizontal crystal and a bit of matrix. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a bit scuffing on the edges, which is certainly only a modest detraction. Comes with an OLD German label, probably dating the mid-1800s. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7671. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A C.F. Muth lived in Cincinnati, Ohio in the 1880s, but this could have been a European collector. Classic and excellent old English barite.
