Item Description

An impressive large 360-degree calcite from famed Tsumeb. Dramatically intergrown glassy, translucent colorless calcite rhombs have striking preferential overgrowth and inclusions of rust-red iron oxides. The fantastic overall shape varies from side to side. Knobby alligator hide-like isolated largeer rhombs on one side blend into dendritic stacked clusters of smaller rhombs on other sides. Complete all-around and nearly pristine. The large rhomb at the pointed end is bruised and the minimal bruising elsewhere is almost entirely confined to the face with the dendritic-growth smaller rhombs. The sculptural quality of this imposing large piece is certainly significant. Tsumeb, like Dal'negorsk is renowned for calcite quality and diversity and this is certainly an exceptional large example of this most unusual style. Ex J. Murray Collection of Wichita Falls, Texas. This striking piece has multiple display views!
