Item Description

A VERY RARE and showy old-time pseudomorph from an unknown old mine in this well-known Chile province. MINDAT lists 85 localities where chalcopyrite has been reported, but NO photographs. MINDAT lists 38 localities for limonite and also NO photographs. This sculptural and super rarity in limonite matrix features a shapely vug hosting at least four very sharp tetragonal chalcopyrite crystals, that have been pseudomorphed by limonite and then coated by green chrysocolla. Unique old-time material from the Kay Robertson Collection # 12617. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
