Item Description

Bournonite specimens from this ancient iron mine, abandoned in 1965, are a German classic. Splendent, dark metallic-gray, textbook for the locale bournonite crystals are strikingly clustered atop this extremely rich and sculptural two-sided small cabinet combination plate. The crystals reach about 1.4 cm, some have classic cogwheel form and many of the crystals have a beautiful light iridescence, adding much color and character. A seam of tiny siderite disks at the bottom on massive bournonite is a nice contrast. A real BONUS on the back are scattered sharp, coated and uncoated tetrahedrite crystals, to 4 mm. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1850 and acquired from Scott Williams during Christmas 1960. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Older classic bournonite combination material from this well-known locale.
