Item Description

A showy, rich and classic combination plate from this famous Russian gem mining district, where mining started in 1723! Rich sky-blue, translucent aquamarine sections, to 2.7 cm, are aesthetically scattered among sections of smoky quartz crystals. Scattered on the undulating plate are sharp, terminated, gemmy colorless topaz crystals and topaz crystal sections. The terminated, striated, topaz crystal partially enveloping a aquamarine crystal section is 2.4 cm long and the doubly terminated, striated, gemmy topaz next to aqua and smoky sections is 1.7 cm long. Even though most of the crystals are damaged, this remains a highly representative, old-time, rich and classic combination probably dating the Imperial Russia era, prior to World War I. From an East Coast collection and comes with a faded century-old label.
