A RARE and outstanding Herkimer, New York style smoky quartz "diamond" from Governador Valadares. This impressive, stout, facet-like, doubly terminated crystal with fine light smoky color is super glassy, lustrous and water-clear. The scattered interior veils add pizzazz and charater. Complete all-around and pristine. The base has a contact where another crystal once lay, but with no damage, per se. Most Minas Gerais smoky quartzes are from Diamantina, Divino das Laranjeiras or an unknown locality. An important and rare Herkimer-style smoky quartz "diamond" from this locale from the Paul Zerfass Collection # 157.
