Item Description

RARE style cassiterite from an unknown Finland locale. Cassiterite specimens are rare from any of the numerous localities listed by MINDAT and specimens of this richness are extremely rare. Fantastic radial sprays of lustrous, metallic "needle tin" are richly scattered on all sides of the pegmatite quartz wedge matrix. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4915 and acquired in the mid-1960s from Al McGuinness. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Rare, perhaps UNIQUE style cassiterite from Finland. Perhaps one of our customers can identify the correct locale.
