Item Description

A UNIQUE and RARE combination from the well-known Crabtree Mine pegmatite, known for emerald, beryl and schorl specimens. Kyanite is super rare from here! MINDAT does not list the species for the locale. Layered sections of highly lustrous, glassy, classic rich cornflower-blue and teal-blue lathes cover the bottom of the mounded quartz pegmatite matrix shot through with sections of lustrous, striated schorl crystals, to 2.8 cm. Ex Terry Ledford Collection. Terry was a co-owner of the mine in the 1980s and 90s and the piece probably dates to that time frame. He was tragically killed in a mining accident in 2014. Unique North Carolina kyanite from this locale. A MUST for the locality or species collector.
