Item Description

Fascinating, highly unusual looking pyrolusite forms on this sculptural old-timer from this old manganese mining district. The striking enechelon balls in the center are composed of tighly intergrown prismatic crystals (pyrolusite after manganite?) in a nifty swirl pattern. Tiny, lustrous, jet-black hollandite (manganese oxide) or pyrolusite botryoids flanking the balls are a stark contrast and compliment. The 2.3 cm elongated knob of tiny botryoids on a side is a sculptural additional accessory. From an East Coast collection and comes with a century-old torn and faded label. RARE style pyrolusite from this historic locale with two fine display views.
