Item Description

A VERY RARE and showy combination miniature from this less well-known large alkaline-peralkaline complex of volcanic to plutonic rocks near Midelt. A 9 mm, gemmy, yellow doubly terminated apatite crystal is very aesthetically set in the middle of a sculptural jackstraw jumble of sharp, lustrous, very dark green to jet-black hornblende prisms, to 1.6 cm (doubly terminated). Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 13136. MINDAT does not list pargasite from this locale. The dark prisms are either an Amphibole or a Pyroxene (aegirine). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). MINDAT has no apatite photos in the locality photo gallery. RARE.
