Item Description

Super sculptural pyrite from the famed Huanzala Mine. A striking large octahedron has fantastic cube and dodecahedral modifications. The attached cluster of similar, smaller pyrites is a very fine compliment to this classic and outstanding pyrite. All of the crystals have mirror-bright luster and the fantastic modified edges to the large octo with stepped-growth add a surreal element to this exceptional specimen. Pieces like this exemplify why Huanzala is considered to be one of world's great pyrite localities. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 12006 and acquired from the Frazier's at the 1989 MSSC Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Excellent sculptural pyrite.
