Item Description

Fluorite has long been considered a rare, but highly desirable accessory species from the historic mines at St. Andreasberg. A sharp, lustrous, gemmy, 1.3 cm, blue-green octahedron with frosted faces is artistically perched atop the calcite matrix. Purple fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4495. Kay assembled an important suite of classics and rarities from this famed district. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). See the Mineralogical Record St. Andreasberg Special Issue, May-June, 2017, Vol. 48, No. 3. The is piece undoubtedly dates to the 1800s, as the last mine closed in 1910. Excellent and rare fluorite from this famed locale. Seldom on the market!
