Item Description

This ancient lead mine (1300s) became unique in the 1800s as the sole commercial producer of barytocalcite and is the Type Locality. The mine closed before 1900 (MINDAT). Barytocalcite is a rare Ba-Ca carbonate. Lustrous translucent creamy prisms totally fill a vug in the sculptural small cabinet matrix. Fine specimens of barytocalcite are extremely rare and I am told all are older than at least several decades (if not over a hundred years old). From an East Coast collection. Rarely available today.
