Vanadinite on Calcite (Robertson Coll.)

Item Description

Classic and colorful two generation vanadinite crystals on this rich and showy specimen from this well-known locale, near the renowned Red Cloud Mine. Larger brick-red, tabular, hexagonal prisms, to 3 mm, are richly and aesthetically clustered on the earlier generation of tiny lustrous orange prisms. The matrix is brown calcite on this excellent combination example from the Kay Robertson Collection # 13208 and probably from the 1980s or 90s finds. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
