Item Description

Sugilite is a rare very complex Li-Zr-silicate with the finest examples easily coming from the famous Wessels Mine of the Kalahari. Vibrant reddish-purple sections of rare isolated crystal sections, to 7 mm, are nicely scattered on the glassy, granular pectolite matrix. Pectolite is rare in the Wessels and in the Kalahari in general. I am aware of only one pocket of the association in this quality and form, and this is a super piece from the find (late 1980s, or early 1990s I believe). Ex Charlie Key Collection.
