Item Description

A classic and sculptural large combination plate from this ancient iron mine, that closed in 1965. Unusually shaped twinned metallic galena crystals are aesthetically clustered and scattered with golden chalcopyrite sphenoids on the thin quartz matrix plate richly covered with multiple generations of siderite rhombs. The back of the plate hosts more galena, chalcopyrite and siderite, as a bonus. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4010 and acquired from Al McGuinness in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Mineral specimens of this large size and combination quality are uncommon from here.
