Item Description

Uvarovite specimens are RARE from the historic gold producing Jamestown District of the Mother Lode Belt. Two long extinct mines in the District mined chromium from 1865 to 1918 (MINDAT). Scintillating, gemmy, emerald-green uvarovite garnet microcrystals richly cover and really sparkle on both sides of the hefty chromite matrix. RARE calcite micro rhombs on one side cover many uvarovites. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1062 and acquired in the 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A RARE and highly desirable old-time California combination.
