Item Description

Goethite/hematite specimens are RARE from the old extinct silver-polymetallic mines in this area. Two generations of sculptural bubbly botryoids dramatically rise up from the large matrix plate. The "eyes" on one side of the dramatic 360-degree specimen are larger and have much higher luster, than the botryoids on the other side of the piece. Interesting chemistry here. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5885 and acquired from Al McGuinness in the late 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Undoubtedly old-time material, but no proof. RARE, rich and showy iron ore from this well-known locale.
