Item Description

Combination minerals specimens with this quality and aesthetics are rare from any of the less well-known copper, silver and gold mines around the city of Cananea. Ores have been exploited since the first European settlers arrived in the 18th century (MINDAT) and open pit mining continues today. The striking 3.5 cm quartz spire hosts a sharp, brassy 1.0 cm pyritohedron, a couple of lustrous and translucent rose-red rhodocrhosite rhombs, to 7 mm, and rosettes of pastel-pink rhodochrosite with microcrystalline quartz. The spire and accessories are beautifully set on the matrix of quartz points accented with a field of small pyritohedrons. Ex W.S. Logan Rhodochrosite Collection. Rhodochrosite combination specimens with this 360-degree sculptural quality are VERY RARE and are seldom on the market. Probably older material, but no proof.
