Item Description

RARE and rich combination material from the famous Leonard Mine at Butte. Wurtzite is RARE from Butte. Sparkly wurtzite microcrystals richly cover the striking mounded jackstraw intergrowths of chalcocite after covellite plates. A bit of periphery wear shows that some of the matrix consists of splendent metallic-gray galena cubes and the bottom shows bright iridescent unaltered covellite. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7838 and acquired from the Cisneros' in October, 1975. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A RARE and rich old-time Butte combination and a MUST for the locality or species collector! Not pretty to look at, but an outstanding and rare Leonard Mine combination.
