Item Description

An impressive large pyritized fossil belemnite from Germany. Belemnites are an extinct order of straight Cephalopods (related to Ammonites) which existed during the Mesozoic era, 252 to 66 MYA. This particular specimen is from the Jurassic period, 201 to 145 MYA. The striking bullet-shaped section was part of the hard internal skeleton at the rear of the animal and is called the rostrum. This excellent and uncommon pyritized varietal has two clean repairs. Ex Joe Lobell Collection of Oklahoma.
