Item Description

An impressive stout cluster of parallel-growth, hexagonal black blades make a wonderful non-Alpine-type "Iron Rose" of hematite from Minas Gerais, Brazil. The blades have excellent, splendent, metallic silvery-grey faces forming the classic "rose" shape that makes these specimens so desirable. Light brown iron oxides on the individual plate edges really accentuate the crystal form of this fine piece. The excellent, older piece is complete all-around and has just a bit of bruising on the crest of the piece. The splendent back is contacted. Few of such form come out, in good condition, and most date to the 1960s or 70s. This is an excellent example and compares very favorably with the style of (more expensive!) European Alpine pieces. Ex David Burgess Collection and acquired from well-known Brazilian dealer, Luis Menezes. Truly an older and fine Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais iron rose.
