Item Description

Alstonite is a rare Ba-carbonate and this rich cute miniature is from the famous Co-Type Locality - the Brownley Hill Mine in Alston Moor. The matrix is covered with a dense forest of lustrous snow-white pseudohexagonal spikes with well-striated satin luster faces. The crystals reach about 9 mm and are good sized crystals for the rare species and locale. This historic old lead, then zinc mine operated until 1936. Choice and excellent material from the Dr. Stephen Moreton Collection and collected in 1993.
